Time for something completely unique …… designed by the renowned Vendome town Architect, “Édouard Marganne”, in the 1850s and constructed from the stones reclaimed from the destruction of the Vendome church of St. Martin (of which only the tower still stands and is visible from the upper floors of this property), this “folie” shows off its Italian inspirations with Romanesque columns, walkways, central “light well” and mini-Villa guest lodge. Located in possibly the most prestigious and well-known residential areas of Vendome with a no-through road in front and the river behind, a tranquil lifestyle in this bustling city is assured.

The former carriage entrance hall with original double door opens to an imposing tuffeau stoned passageway with arches on either side. The library once the office of the local Notaire is hidden behind one of the doors, with a reading room, wc, boiler room, etc. behind the others with the central one leading to the impressive “escargot” stairs that wind their way to the upper floors.

The views from any one of these rooms are superb and from the front we look out over the rooftops to the Mayor’s office and park and several churches including the tower of St.Martin.

In the attic we discover a more modern use of the former servants quarters with a projector room, gymnasium and various games rooms. An ideal hideaway for the children and teenagers that have enjoyed living here.

To the rear of the main house is the guest lodge with its own independent access and currently run as a successful two bedroom gite with it’s own terrace overlooking the river an ideal place to sip wine watching the world go by on the other side of the river or maybe some fishing if that appealed.

There is a sizeable lawn area and some well established trees and shrubs. A useful two room “dependance” is located on the road side allowing direct access from the garden without passing through the main house.

A truly super location in the heart of this bustling city with excellent access to Paris in less than an hour from the TGV station which is an easy 10 minute drive away (there’s even a bus at the end of the road that can take you). The choice of schools is impressive and the two hospitals excellent assets. Vendome with its bistros and cafes as well as large choice in restaurants is becoming increasingly popular with foreigners and Parisians alike all enjoying a “Paris lifestyle” without the costs, and with the real deal being only a short train ride away.
